This garden was designed to complement a full interior refurbishment by Laura Hammett of a basement flat in the centre of Marylebone, London.
As a geologist, the client wanted it to feature a variety of different rock colours and textures. We used two colours of granite with two different finishes, a slate clad, recessed fireplace, with bio-ethanol fires, and a Scottish pebble drainage channel around the edge of the overhung central terrace. Planting was minimal but striking, with three, giant, cloud pruned Ilex crenata dominating the corners. Lighting was also crucial to highlight the textures and create shadows on the rendered walls.
