Marylebone ‘Well’ Garden

This ‘garden’ was designed to complement a full interior refurbishment by Laura Hammett¬†of a basement flat in the centre of Marylebone, London.

As a geologist, the client wanted it to feature a variety of different rock colours and textures. We used two colours of granite with two different finishes, a slate clad,  recessed fireplace, with bio-ethanol fires, and a Scottish pebble drainage channel around the edge of the overhung central terrace.

Planting was minimal but striking, with three, giant, cloud pruned Ilex crenata dominating the corners.

Lighting was also crucial to highlight the textures and create shadows on the rendered walls.

The courtyard can be viewed and accessed from three sides and is the central viewpoint fo the whole apartment, and those above.
