One Acre in Leafy Beaconsfield

The client brief for this new build in Beaconsfield was to complement the Arts and Crafts style of the house with topiary and minimal planting, but to maximise the space for sports activities for their three boys. This included 30m of professional cricket nets, 5 aside football and a hard surface for basket ball! The site is heavily shaded by a strip of woodland, but the rear of the house is in full sun.

Sarah created : A chequerboard of evergreen Buxus clipped into huge cubes inter-planted with herbaceous perennials around the entrance at the front, and as a separation between the two dining terraces to the rear. These are linked by a water feature which appears to overflow from one level to the next. The larger garden is edged with curved swathes of grasses and perennials, and the existing woodland has been thinned for the boys to play in. An avenue of fastigste Hornbeams will eventually screen the large development next door.
